The Night Ministry is pleased to announce that Mary Poliwka, MPH, RN, is the new Director of Outreach and Health, recognizing her eight years of leadership, innovation, and service to people experiencing homelessness and poverty across Chicago.

Since joining The Night Ministry in 2017 as a community health manager, Poliwka has played an instrumental role in expanding the organization’s health and outreach services. She initially led HIV testing and health education programs before taking on broader leadership responsibilities across outreach, case management, and operations. In 2025, became the interim Director of Outreach and Health.

Throughout her tenure, Poliwka has guided the organization through periods of transformation, strengthening partnerships, supporting staff, and helping shape innovative programs that address the complex needs of people experiencing homelessness. She has been particularly influential in advancing The Night Ministry’s medical respite initiative while building strong relationships with healthcare systems, government agencies, and community-based organizations.

In her new role, Poliwka will oversee The Night Ministry’s outreach and health programs and help lead ongoing efforts to expand access to healthcare through the organization’s mobile health services and other community-based initiatives.

“Mary’s impact on The Night Ministry over the past eight years has been exceptional,” said Allison McCann-Stevenson, Vice President of Programs and Services. “She combines deep expertise with a genuine commitment to the people we serve, and she has earned the trust of colleagues, partners, and community members alike. As we continue expanding our mobile health services and developing innovative programs that improve health outcomes for our neighbors, Mary’s leadership, vision, and compassion will be critical to advancing this work. We are thrilled to see her step into this important role.”

Poliwka is known for her collaborative leadership style, creating opportunities for staff to contribute ideas, grow professionally, and make a meaningful impact. Her thoughtful approach, creativity, and dedication to those she serves have made her a respected leader throughout the organization.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue learning and growing in this new role alongside people who inspire me every day and to support a mission I’m proud to be part of,” said Poliwka.
