Q. How many youth housing programs does The Night Ministry have?
A. The Night Ministry has four youth housing programs in three buildings. Open Door Youth Shelter - West Town houses our Interim Housing Program and on a separate floor, our Transitional Living Program. Open Door Youth Shelter - Lakeview houses our Response-Ability Pregnant & Parenting Program shelter services. The Crib is housed at Lakeview Lutheran Church.
Q. How many beds do you have for homeless youth?
A. We have a total of 52 beds/program spaces for all our youth housing programs. Our Interim Housing Program provides 16 and our Response-Ability Pregnant & Parenting Program and Transitional Living Program each provide 8. The Crib has 20 beds.
Q. How long can the kids stay?
A. The length of stay depends on the program. Residents in our Interim Housing Program and Response-Ability Pregnant & Parenting Program can stay up to 120 days. Residents in our Transitional Living Program can stay for up to two years. The Crib is an overnight shelter program, so guests leave the program each morning.
Q. Why don't you have more beds/program spaces given the number of homeless youth in Chicago?
A. The Night Ministry operates our programs within our funding resources and our ability to provide the most effective services possible for the youth in our programs.
