Transitional Living Program - TEST

Our Transitional Living Program serves youth, ages 16 to 20, who are not wards of the State and their children. More comprehensive than our interim program, Transitional Living Program participants move through levels of increasing rights and responsibilities until they reach self-reliance.

Our Transitional Living program operates on the fourth floor of Open Door Youth Shelter – West Town. We have two wings/apartments; one for young men, one for young women. Residents pay a small monthly fee of which we use to teach life skills. We use their fees to pay for cultural enrichment activities. Residents must follow rules and work toward goals they set with the Case Manager.

Youth work in partnership with staff to achieve both long and short-term goals resulting in permanent, stable housing.

Long-term Goals:
1) improve and maintain the self-sufficiency and developmental growth of the youth served
2) transition and maintain those youth in permanent housing.

Short-term Goals:
1) improve independent living skills
2) improve educational and/or employment skills
3) increase savings/income
4) address clinical concerns, and
5) increase knowledge of, and access to, permanent housing.
